Las Terrenas, Samaná – The heart of Las Terrenas has been revitalized with the grand reopening of Plaza del Pueblo de los Pescadores, an iconic waterfront destination that has long been a favorite among locals and visitors alike. President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado proudly inaugurated the newly reconstructed plaza, which underwent a RD$293 million transformation after a devastating fire.
Now spanning 4,930 square meters, the revamped plaza features 10 stylish food stalls, offering a variety of local and international cuisine, alongside modernized facilities, including restrooms, technical rooms, and a state-of-the-art fire suppression system to ensure safety. Enhancing the overall experience, the project also upgraded a 190-meter roadway, developed a 960-square-meter public square, and created three new beach access points, making it easier than ever to enjoy the stunning turquoise waters of Las Terrenas.
A Tourism & Economic Boost for Samaná
President Abinader highlighted the significant impact of this redevelopment, emphasizing how it will strengthen tourism and local economic activity in Samaná. Minister Collado echoed this sentiment, underscoring the government’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the region’s natural and cultural treasures.
Since 2020, the Ministry of Tourism has invested over RD$1.1 billion in Samaná, funding infrastructure projects that further establish this paradise as a premier Caribbean destination.
